What Are the “Tools of Al-Anon”?
We learn in Al-Anon that we didn’t cause alcoholism, can’t control it, and can’t cure it. We have, however, been affected. Al-Anon offers us many specific tools to help lessen these effects.
The chapter “Picking Up the Tools,” from the book From Survival to Recovery: Growing Up in an Alcoholic Home (B-21) describes the many helpful ideas and techniques that Al-Anon members use to heal from the effects of alcoholism. This book shares the experiences of Al-Anon members who grew up with the disease and how they have found recovery through Al-Anon Family Groups.
